ICS scientific research

ICS intends to devote greater human and financial resources towards the promotion of research activities in specific scientific/technological fields of competence.  Consequently, the ICS Work Programme for 2010 includes an increased number of scientific and technological research activities in its two strategic priorities.

Research activities are planned and carried out at both ICS Trieste and Research Institutions and Universities in developing and developed countries in accordance with the cost/efficiency criteria, the ICS mandate and, whenever possible, the promotion of South-South Cooperation.

ICS bears the responsibility and effective supervision of research activities, contributing also with its in-house projects and expertise.

Biofuels
biofuels

Next generation biofuels and biobased products

Advanced catalytic and biocatalytic processes for the exploitation of bio-feedstock, esp. agro-waste, for the production of next generation biofuels and added value chemicals and plastics.

Rational Design of Drug Agains Pandemics
drug design

Rational drug design and development

Rational design of potential drugs and computer modelling of molecular processes.

Geothermy
geothermy

Geothermal energy

This represents an almost ideal source, particularly for developing countries, since it is practically inexhaustible and it does not produce greenhouse gases.

Nanotech
nanotech

Nanotechnology

To access advanced knowledge and technology aiming at the creation of innovative products developing, using and adapting nanotechnology to address developing countries' needs.
