Networking on nanotechnologies

The results of the preliminary activities carried out in co-operation with the i-Themba Lab located in South Africa resulted in a network of around 20 African research centres, universities and institutions dealing with nanosciences and nanotechnology, which participated actively in the ICS research projects, fellowship programmes, as well as giving their co-operation in the organisation of scientific events such as conferences and workshops.  At the same time, several members of the network are focal points for the ICS e-learning series.

In particular, it is envisaged:

  • to enhance the ICS scientific and technological network already in operation in the field of nanosciences and nanotechnology
  • to revise and fine-tune the methodology and instruments to identify and select members of the network
  • to design, implement and test communication tools to secure services and follow up in strict synergy with the e-learning project and generally to provide broad assistance to the ICS network members
  • to design and promote a portfolio of research projects and scientific opportunities to be jointly carried out by the members of the network
  • to enhance the participation of network members in the ICS e-learning programme
