Nanotechnology Fellowships

Capacity building in developing countries and countries in economic transition is a key step to reach a critical mass of competences in research addressing this field. Young scientists from cooperating centres in developing countries are trained, but also actively participate in our research programme taking benefit from ICS and its partners' in-house expertise.

Upon termination of the fellowship the researchers are expected to return to their home institutions to share their knowledge with the scientific community, apply the results of the training and research activity and sustain cooperation at local, regional level and with ICS as well.

Examples of work recently carried out by ICS fellows include:

  • Smart nanovaccine targeting to blood stage malaria parasite (Nigeria)
  • CaCO3 as microcarrier for nanodrug delivery system for intestinal tuberculosis chemotherapy (South Africa)
  • Dendrimer-functionalised carbon nanotubes: Synthesis, characterisation and application in drug delivery (India)
  • Development of advanced micro/nanofluidic device for next generation low-cost biomedical diagnostics (South Africa)
  • Development of a multiprotein analyser based on a microchannel device and the precise measurement of the change of the electrical resistence of nanoconstrictions in the channels (Nigeria)
  • development of a simple optical tweezer set up to train people in this kind of technology (India)

Calls for future fellowships will be announced in due time
