Energy recovery and power plant technology.
- Innovative energy recovery technologies, Geothermal or Industrial: study and evaluation of specific technologies and efficiencies for geothermal heating and cooling applications and countries needs/characteristics. Non electric power generation;
- Optimized power plants technology M&E (monitoring and evaluation): closed loop control of power plant results: improvement of the efficiency of geothermal power plants results through closed loop control systems of M&E;
- Innovative and controlled Energy separation technology (Steam + Brine): analysis, evaluation, study and dissemination of enhanced technologies for steam and brine separation in specific geothermal power plants or industrial applications;
- Innovative and optimized ORC (organic ranking cycle) power plant technologies (performance efficiency + enhancements): evaluation of present ORC technology for industrial heat recovery and geothermal energy recovery.

Geothermal development in East Africa
A regional cooperation project (Euro 16 Mil) for the development of geothermal energy in the East Africa Rift Region has been submitted to the ACP Secretariat in Brussels by the African Union based in Addis Ababa in cooperation with ICS-UNIDO.
The Euro 16 Mil provides for capacity building and technical cooperation, as well as for other related activities in support to a collaborative strategy for the development of geothermy in the region. Besides the procedure activated by the AUC with the ACP Secretariat, two regional organisations, i.e. the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, based in Djibouti, and the Eastern African Community (EAC), based in Tanzania, have confirmed their readiness to support this project.
