Our research on rational design of drugs against pandemics
Long-term collaborations have been established with important centres in developing countries, as well as recognized research centres worldwide, particularly with Thailand, India, Malaysia, as well as with Latin American (Uruguay, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil), African (Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa) and East European countries (Russia and NIS).
The research component is complemented by focused workshops, training courses and the fellowship programme. The network of collaborative initiatives in both developing and industrialized countries is being further extended and used for preparation of international projects and dissemination of knowledge through e-learning instruments.
The research activity is articulated in two projects:
1. Computer design and discovery of potential drugs, complemented by synthesis and testing of designed compounds in collaboration with centres of excellence (University of Trieste and University of Milan)
2. Computer modeling of molecular processes (e.g. in biofuel production)
