Fellowships
Given that the main target beneficiary of ICS activities are young scientists/technologists from developing countries and from countries in economic transition, ICS will continue to give high priority to the fellowship programme.
Positions are available to a number of scientists nominated by institutions in the beneficiary countries (e.g. institutions which take part in the ICS network), as well as to individuals from elsewhere applying on the open basis, e.g. with reference to advertisement of positions on the ICS web site. A limited number of research stay positions are available to experienced and senior scientists (and are advertised on the open basis) and to the scientists from cooperating institutions who are implementing in short term ad hoc research tasks in ICS. Upon termination of the fellowship, the researchers are expected to return to their home institutions and apply/implement the results of the training and research activity.
Examples of work recently carried out by ICS fellows include:
- Research project on renewable H2 from glycerol steam reforming: effect of La2O3 and CeO2 addition to Pt/Al2O3 catalysts (Argentina and India)
- In-silico simulations of cellulose structural features and interactions in the bio-catalytic degradation of lignocellulose. 3D models of cellulases with different oligosaccharides created (India)
- Study of the catalytic hydrolysis of cellulose in the liquid phase by solid acid catalysts to dehydrated sugars and catalytic conversion of the latter: hydrogenation and ethylation of furfural and hydroxymethylfurfural (India)
- Preliminary study on activity and stability of immobilized lipases in methanolysis for biodiesel production (Malaysia)
- Preliminary study on the degradation of lignin by laccase applications (Russia)
Calls for future fellowships will be announced in due time
