Managing Director of ICS
Stefano Bologna was appointed Managing Director of ICS in June 2011. Before assuming his current position he had worked in various high-level positions in UNIDO including Representative and Director of the Regional Office in South Africa and Representative in Kenya. He also served as the UNIDO Expert in Ethiopia and as an Industrial Development Officer in Vienna.
He has more than 25 years of experience in private companies, national and international organizations where he worked in strategic and programme planning as well as financial and technical management. He has served as a consultant and advisor for a number of organizations including the World Bank, the European Commission, the United Nations Environment Programme and the Italian Government: focusing on investment promotion, technology transfer, private sector development and energy and environment in industry. In the private sector he had worked as the Managing Director of the regional subsidiary for Africa of FILA, a world leader manufacturer of sport goods, and as a production engineer in the machinery manufacturing industry. Stefano Bologna earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ancona, Italy.
His multifaceted career has been driven by a strong conviction that technology plays an important role in the sustainable socio-economic advancement of Developing Countries. He believes that today's global challenges require global approaches and solutions with the contribution of scientists and technologists from all over the world. In taking up his new position at ICS he intends to strengthen the role of the Centre and improve its effectiveness in disseminating scientific knowledge and new technologies in emerging countries, and to promote and facilitate their involvement in confronting and solving the problems of our time.
