Next Generation Biofuels for Africa
The participation in this project will be extended to the countries of the Caribbean and of the Pacific and will provide for capacity building and technical cooperation and other related activities in support to a strategy for the development of Next Generation Biofuels in the countries concerned. More specifically, project resources will finance cooperative R&D programmes in a network of the most advanced laboratories of these countries, as well as a portfolio of bankable pilot and/or demonstration plants freely available for investment by Governments, public-private initiatives, industry and other stakeholders in these same countries. The final approval of this project is expected during the first semester or the summer of 2010, after a direct involvement and endorsement by several regional organisations in the ACP countries, which will ensure a strong contribution in terms of efficiency. After its approval, the project will be implemented by ICS-UNIDO as the executing agency. The objective of the project consists in providing strategic solutions to the production of next generation biofuels and the implementation of the concept of biorefinery starting from different feedstock available in different conditions, with a strong emphasis on agricultural waste to energy approach.
