Geothermal development in East Africa
The Euro 16 Mil provides for capacity building and technical cooperation, as well as for other related activities in support to a collaborative strategy for the development of geothermy in the region. Besides the procedure activated by the AUC with the ACP Secretariat, two regional organisations, i.e. the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, based in Djibouti, and the Eastern African Community (EAC), based in Tanzania, have formally confirmed their readiness to finance this project through the allocation of funds already available to them from the European Commission's budget. After the formal approval by the EC, which is expected during the first quarter of 2010, if not by the end of 2009, the project will be implemented by UNIDO as the executing agency.
